TRADITIONAL AYURVEDIC MASSAGE & REMEDIAL BODYWORK THERAPIES

AYURVEDA IS SEEN AS THE ART FORM OF A GOOD LIFE IN COMBINATION WITH GENTLE HEALING

Ayurvedic Medicine is the age-old science and system of life, living, balance and healing from the Indian subcontinent. The foundational principles of Ayurveda are aimed at guiding the individual in maintaining health and preventing the onset of disease, and for those in a diseased or imbalanced state, to then work to bring the diseased body back to balance, in so far as possible to maximise quality of life and minimise pain and suffering.

FULLY INDIVIDUALISED TREATMENTS

Ayurvedic remedial bodywork therapies, have for thousands of years been used for (1) preventative measures for maintaining health and wellbeing, and (2) as remedial therapies for providing relief of pain and symptoms associated with acute and/or chronic health conditions.

All therapy sessions with us are individualised, and any initial remedial bodywork session does require a 15-minute (fully confidential) Ayurvedic consultation to understand your current health issues and history so that we can appropriately individualise your bodywork treatment(s) to your situation and needs.

- The cost of this 15 minute consultation is $25.00.

We use natural (and always where possible organic) products. We use no products that contain artificial colours, fragrances, and/or preservatives, or petrochemicals.

PLEASE NOTE: As with all Ayurvedic bodywork therapies, there are contra-indications that go with certain treatments. If during our initial bodywork consultation with you, we feel that a treatment you are wanting is contra-indicated, we will discuss this with you and suggest a more suitable option. To give an example of this, if someone is quite underweight, then an Udvartana (herbal powder detox massage) would not be recommended. In this case, we may then recommend an Abhyanga (fully body massage) which is a more nourishing and appropriate treatment.

On the other hand, it becomes a wonderful bodywork therapy for aiding in relieving stress and mental fatigue, musculoskeletal pain, lymphatic drainage, as well as painful and stiff joints.

Sarvanga Abhyanga (full body massage) makes use of different strokes, pressures and techniques on the body – depending on one’s individual needs and imbalances. In the same way, individualised combinations of specific medicated herbal oils are also used and applied to the body during the massage.

(4): UDVARTANA (HERBAL DRY POWDER OR HERBAL PASTE DETOX MASSAGE)

Udvartana uses dry herbal powders (that are dry and rough in nature and hot in potency) or herbal pastes (herbal powders mixed with herbal oils) in combination with an (Abhyanga) full body massage, using specific strokes, in a rhythmic motion. There are two types of Udvartana, one that is with the use of dry powder only, and the other uses herbal medicated oils and herbal powders in combination. The choice of which of these two methods is used is determined on an individual basis, and depends on the current health imbalances of the individual.

Traditionally, Udvartana is used to work on rejuvenation of body and energy levels, exfoliation, alleviating feeling of heaviness in the body, liquefying the fat tissues, increasing circulation and metabolism, stimulating the lymphatic system, conditioning the skin, aiding in exfoliation, encouraging the release of toxins - and in addition, is also highly suitable for individuals suffering from conditions such as diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol, metabolic syndrome, lethargy and heaviness, lack of freshness, excessive sleep, hypothyroidism,

(11): NEW MOTHER POST-PARTUM ABHYANGA (FULL BODY MASSAGE)

Ayurveda recognises the work that occurs by a mother after giving birth, and utilises an age old and time-tested approach to postpartum care. Often a new mother can suffer from such issues as anxiety, insecurity, dryness, constipation, gas, digestion, and a lack of sleep, which are seen as an imbalance of the air and ether/space elements within the mind and body.

In Ayurvedic postpartum care, women receive treatment and care through specific food preparations, staying in a warm (home) environment, rest, and receiving rebalancing massages with warm medicated oils. Food preparation is considered a fundamental element to the Ayurvedic postpartum care, as after childbirth, Ayurveda sees that  a woman’s digestive fire (capacity) is weakened and needs to be rekindled and stabilised.

Warm Abhyanga massage is a pivotal component of Ayurvedic postpartum care. A postpartum Abhyanga is a very soothing repetitive treatment protocol. Ideally, this is given daily for a specific period, but if this is not possible, then weekly sessions are highly beneficial, and/or the mother is instructed how to undertake her own self-massage at home. The Abhyanga also aids in helping to move stored up wastes out of the tissues and muscles, promoting balance mentally and physically and helping to aid in promoting lactation.

Postpartum Abhyanga can be generally commenced 5-10 days after a natural birth, and later on for a c-section section (dependant on doctor's advice and/or the healing of the scar tissue).
