RELATIONSHIP, MARRIAGE & FAMILY COUNSELLING

At Mandaram, we approach relationship, marriage and family counselling through seeing individuals in a relationship as part of a greater whole - where we aim to work with our clients in finding the root cause (or core) of issue(s) - and work firstly towards restoration of the individual's relationship with themselves, to then be able to establish healthy relationships with the other.

Through modern science-based approaches, we work towards helping couples and family members break free of limiting thought patterns, belief systems, and behaviours and help them find the strength, courage and the resources necessary to be able to make the required changes to overcome their difficulties and challenges, and establish healthy functioning relationships.

We also focus on providing our clients with the tools, skills and methods to be able to better manage the challenges of daily life; find more balance; be able to better navigate and facilitate change; pinpointing resistances and obstacles to change; finding more energy, motivation, joy and contentment in life; and feeling more empowered to create the life that they want.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING AN INITIAL CONSULTATION WITH US

Working with a counsellor is part of an emotional journey, and is one where you need to be (a) comfortable with the process, (b) and feel comfortable with and trust the person that you will be working with on this journey.

As such, our initial sessions generally cover the following aspects:

  • In a gentle and exploratory way, we will firstly discuss with you the issues and concerns that you have and then help you look at prioritising these issues and concerns.
  • We will then discuss with you the options with respect to counselling, and discuss with you a forward plan that works for you.

FIRE SANDERS

'I am a practitioner not unlike the clients that I work with. I have my own life stories of trauma, abuse, pain, anxiety, panic attacks and my world and health falling apart, which I have had to face, work through and move forward from. So, when I work with my clients, it is with a knowing that whilst I cannot walk in their shoes, I can come from a place of deep understanding … and that all I offer to my clients, I practice in my own life as well.'

- Fire Sanders

Fire Sanders is a mental health practitioner, counsellor, educator, and biomedical yoga therapist with a total passion for what she does and offers. Fire is also an Ayurvedic Practitioner.

Introduced to science based counselling, resilience building and stress management at a young age - Fire has learnt over the years the benefits of incorporating these into her own life - and they have been fundamental in her recovery from a number of her own life challenges, including trauma, loss, chronic stress, and debilitating digestive issues - and finding balance, peace and self-acceptance within a fast-paced modern society.

Fundamental to all work that Fire undertakes with her clients is: Care, attention and focus; respect; professionalism, individualised care: and everything that she does and offers to her clients, Fire practices in her own life.

WILLEM BOUMA

'Life is like two sides of the same coin … with joy and happiness also comes pain and suffering. The two are inextricably linked. Yet, it is the hard times, it is the really difficult times in one’s life that I have come to see - from my own personal experience - that often can be times of the most profound times of learning, healing and growing. We just need to have access to the tools, processes and understanding to be able to unlock this within ourselves.'

- Willem Bouma

Willem Bouma is a mental health practitioner, counsellor, facilitator and coach and has a Graduate Certificate in Change Management. Willem is also a is a qualified Life Coach and Meditation Teacher, Ayurvedic bodywork therapist and also has a PhD in Chemistry.

Willem has experienced first hand the trials and tribulations of the challenges that life can bring - including recovery from childhood trauma, loss, a highly aggressive form of cancer, separation and divorce, chronic stress, and establishing a more complete sense of self and life purpose. From his own experience, Willem knows the (at times arduous) journey of healing as a way of being able to move forward in life.

What underpins all of Willem's work with his clients is: Respect; care and attention; focus; and a deep understanding that each of us have our own challenges to face in life.
